Secret Mode and The Chinese Room asked us to create this trio of trailers for Still Wakes The Deep, an atmospheric, narratively harrowing, and disturbingly beautiful game.
We punched up some in-engine scenes as well as building custom shots from scratch to create these trailers that will quicken the pulse as we begin to uncover the depth of the secrets that the rig has to offer.
Reveal Trailer
As soon as the Chinese Room told us that this game was a Scottish “The Thing” set on an oil rig, we knew exactly what trailer we wanted to make. Moody, confident and foreboding. We worked with the whole team and decided that an unusually long opener across the ocean was striking enough to draw viewers at the showcase in and build anticipation. We deliberately weren’t going to show the monster but it was important to us that everything felt eerie to create fear of the unknown. So drawing on the style of A24 trailers, we chose a series of shots that left you feeling uncomfortable followed by a few shots of action to leave you wanting more. Release Date Trailer
For this second trailer for Still Wakes The Deep, we started to reveal more of the sinister secrets of the rig. We wanted to start moving the viewer from the unsettling fear of the unknown in the first trailer into hints of real horror. To bring the vision of our creative team to life, we layered some custom cinematic sequences with gameplay and this unforgettable, imploring voice over. Launch Trailer
In our final trailer for Still Wakes The Deep, we wanted to focus on Caz’s humanity as the rig starts to came alive in every sense. More environments and characters are revealed as tensions rise. Finally, with peeks at the monster and shots of Caz’s peers being picked off, we wanted to capture the human connection and catastrophe that will be experienced in this fantastic horror game. Along with our trio of full length, linear cinematic and gameplay trailers, the team also provided high resolution still images, custom motion graphic title cards, and a variety of platform compatible versioning to ensure a fully rounded campaign across all social media variants. The reception to our trailers for Still Wakes The Deep was phenomenal! The reveal trailer premiered at the Xbox 2023 Showcase and went on the win Best Reveal Trailer at The Global Entertainment Awards in 2024. The release date trailer featured on the Future Games Show and the launch trailer premiered on the PC Gaming Show 2024 before amassing half a million views on Youtube. Our trailers and assets were widely picked up across gaming and entertainment media and we were proud to even be included in the credits of the game itself.
